The events of the last week (from April 29 - May 6) Parliament has finished On Thursday, April 30, the last session of Federal Assembly finished. As many times before, the parliament was half- empty, so this last meeting was quite symbolic. The deputies accepted the new rules for their colleagues in the next period. The new parliament clubs may be created only by deputies of the same candidate list. It means deputies will not be allowed to change clubs according to their will. The first freely elected Parliament accepted 167 new laws in two years. Vaclav Havel meets Alexander Dubcek and Vladimir Meciar On Monday, May 4, President Havel met a delegation of the Social Democratic Party of Slovakia , led by its chairman Alexander Dubcek. The delegation informed Mr. Havel of parties they may collaborate with after the elections (in Slovakia, it is the Movement for Demokratic Slovakia (HZDS) and the Left-wing Democratic Party (SDL), in Bohemia the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party and the Civic Movement.) It was the first President's meeting with Slovak social democrats. On the same day, President Havel met also Vladimir Meciar with other deputies of the Movement for Democratic Slovakia (HZDS). According to HZDS, the Slovak Declaration of independence should be accepted after the elections. Also a constitution of the Slovak republic should be created, with the institution of Slovak President. As for the common state with Czechs, a referendum should decide. According to V. Meciar, the federal constitution will become invalid in Slovakia, but not federal laws. Names of journalist- agents published Czech dailies Metropolitan and Telegraf published the secret list of the members of the Czech syndicate of journalists - former STB (secret police) agents. The day before, the list was given to the deputies of Federal Assembly who had to promis not to publish it. President Havel says thge whole thing is absurd. On the list, there are only ordinary , unimportant persons. The real active agents are not members of Syndicate, he said. CZECHOSLOVAK POLITICAL SPECTRUM BEFORE ELECTIONS Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party (CSSD) is the second mostly prefered party in Czechoslovakia. According to the last surveys, it has support of about 10% The party was renewed in December 1989, after 41 years. Prof. Jiri Horak is the head of it. In the last elections, the party didn't reach 5% , so it had not its deputies in Parliament. but after dividing of the Civic Forum in 1991, some its members declared themselves social democrats. Nowadays, the social democratic Parliament club has 11 members. The economist Valtr Komarek, main critic of Vaclav Klaus-Minister of finance, prognoser Milos Zeman and vice-chairman of the Parliament Zdenek Jicinsky are among the members of the club. There is independent in Slovakia-Social Democratic Party in Slovakia(SDSS). Its chance in election increased after Alexander Dubcek became the chairman. CSSD declares in its programme: 1. Party refuses the government restrictive economical policy that leads towards inflation, high unemployment, deflation of our currency and selling out of the national property. in the difference of conservativ economical theory, that social democrats considers to be ideology. Their opinion is that the state should play the important role in market system. 2. Party refuses the way of privatization and voucher privatization especially. 3. Party tries to strenghth trade unions in economical and social field. 4. Party wants to keep common state that is only guarentee of our state's continuity accepted interationally. According to the party the negotiations are blocked by attitudes of some political parties that considers Slovakian statements left-wing and nationalistic. The party is not against federal state. The preferences in election A group for independent social analysis(AISA) asked almost 2000 inhabitants in Cyechoslovaki on April what party they would elect. The coalition of Civic Democratic Party(ODS) with Christian/Democratic Party(KDS) got ht ebiggest support-24%. Liberal-social union (Agricultural party, The Czechoslovak Socialistic party and Green party) would get 11%. Social-democrats will get 8%, communists, Civic Democratic Alliance nad Civic Movement would obtain 7% and Movement for Selfadministration Democrasy- Society for Moravia and Silesia(HSD-SMS) 6%. The drop of Christian Democratic Union that didn't reach 5% needed for proceeding into the Parliament. There are changes in Slovakian policy too. The Movement for Democratic Slovakia-the party of Slovak ex-premier V. Meciar-is still in top(34% of Slovakian voters). The second most supported party is Party of Democratic Left-Wing(former Slovakian communists) with 10%, Slovak Nationalistic Party (SNS,9%), coalition of ODS with Democratic Party-8%. Christian-Democratic Movement(KDH) leaded by Jan Carnogursky, Slovakian prime minister, got 7%. Civic Democratic Union got 4%. Social Democratic Party of Slovakia has the support of 4% voters. What is red in Czech republic Agency Amasia made a survey "what is mostly read in Czechoslovakia". The most popular are Mlada Fronta Dnes newspapers, Rude Pravo and Spigl. The fourth place is occupied by Prace, fifth one by Lidove noviny. Mlada Fronta Dnes is read by every fourth citizen of Czech republic, every fifth citizen reads other newspapers. Rude Pravo (former central newspapers of Communistic party of Czechoslovakia) is also today the newspaper with the highest cirucation in about 350 000. It is read by 9% citizens. Other popular newspapers are Telegraf and Metropolitan. Cultural service "Radost" Agency Petr Lukas and Pavel Nadvornik, students of the faculty of film-arts, founded it. Agency "Radost"-Joy is working in the field of art photography. It issues picture books and helds exhibitions. In one of them photographer Robert Vana shown his work. "Radost" also issues Post magazin where you can find not only good pictures but also the articles about alternative music, new books etc. The agency wants to open a club in Prague 2 in the summer that will become the stage for musical group "Garaz". "Radost" agency wants to open also new galery. Not only the first rock's event "First Prague Rock's Event" was the name of the concert that took place on April 29 in Stvanice . Funs of an independent rock welcomed musicians groups as "Akutni otrava", "Slobodna Europa", "Garaz", "Uz jsme doma", "Psi vojaci". Underground group "Pulnoc" wanted to play their songs from its american record "City of Hysteria" but because of the technical problems they managed to play only one song. British compilation Jesus and Mary Chain had a concert on May 6. "Guns in Roses" will be in Prague on May 20. Sentence for the Theft of Picasso Two men put in the court for stealing four pictures of Picasso from the National gallery in Prague were sentenced to 12 years in prison. The value of the pictures is about 13.5 million $. The third trespasserwas sentenced to 8 years' imprisonment.
